How to get there

By Air from the UK and Eire

Most flights to Slovenia from the UK operate to Brnik airport, which sits in a fairly central location just to the north of the capital Ljubljana. In June 2007, Ryanair will begin to fly to Maribor on a regular basis. There are also several cities in neighbouring countries which are very close to Slovenia’s borders - Trieste airport is to the south-west in Italy; the Croatian capital Zagreb is to the east, and the Austrian airports of Graz and Klagenfurt are both just to the north. The map at the left will show you the position of these airports with respect to Apartment Bled.

Those flying Easyjet from London Stansted have good connections to many UK airports with domestic UK flights with Easyjet, Ryanair or Globespan. It is also convenient (and cheap) to fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Klagenfurt, which is less than one hour drive to Lake Bled.

Click here for flight mapping information from UK airports. Check out any of the usual sites such as Opodo, Cheapflights etc. Prices I found recently ranged from £112 - £ 238 return.

There are direct flights from:

One stop indirect flights via Mainland Europe:

It is also easy to get there with one stop from a number of UK airports with Lufthansa (via Frankfurt) and Air France (via Paris). I found a flight in a month's time from Paris to Ljubljana for £131 return by Air France. Click here to see which European airlines fly to Slovenia.

Connections:

There are bus connections between the Airport Ljubljana (Brnik) and Bled, or you can take a taxi or rent a car (Hertz; Avis; Europcar; Alpetour; Sixt). For more information on local transport, click here.

From Klagenfurt airport you can come to Slovenia by train (railway station Lesce-Bled in the town of Lesce, or Bled Jezero (northern shore of the lake), or rent a car.

From the airports Maribor in Slovenia you can get to Bled by train to Ljubljana, and then by another train to Lesce-Bled. Alternatively you can rent a car.

Directions in Bled:

Visitors should go to “Grajska 46” on arrival in Bled. This is right next to the Castle and two minutes away from Pizzeria “Matjaz”. If driving alone, follow the signs for the Castle; the train station and Pokljuka. See local map for precise instructions on where the apartment is.

By Car from the UK

It is a very long way. I will post mileage and possible travel times when I have worked it out!
